  • Safety

Whether your children are 2 or 12, it’s important to keep them safe. In a world that is seemingly more dangerous by the day, it may seem difficult to protect your children from threats. While it feels overwhelming, there are plenty of ways to approach the topic of safety with your kids. From teaching them their phone number to using a child ID system, here are a few tips to keep your children safe whether at home or in public.

  1. Foster open communication. The best way to keep your children safe is by talking to them about it. Start discussing appropriate safety rules with your kids at a very young age. Be careful though, you don’t want to make them fearful of people or situations. Instead, it’s better for them to be cautious and aware.

  2. Establish some basic rules when it comes to strangers. Make sure that your kids know that it’s never okay to go anywhere with someone they don’t know. If anyone tries to convince them to leave with them, teach them to notify a responsible adult.

  3. Help your children to learn important information. As soon as they are able to remember it, teach them their full name, address, phone number, and the names of both of their parents. It’s also important that they learn how to dial 911 and use a cell phone in the case of an emergency.

  4. Keep updated records of each of your children. In the event that your child does go missing, the police could ask for updated information about your child. It’s beneficial to have all of this information stored someplace that is easily accessible. Child safety kits are a great way to store fingerprints, DNA samples, photos, and other personal information.

From using a child ID system to teaching your children about stranger danger, it’s important to keep your children safe. Don’t wait for a dangerous situation to occur. Be proactive and teach them what to do if they perceive a threat.
